Winners of baby contest announced

Winners of the Pretty Baby Contest, sponsored by the Women's Division of the Pecos Area Chamber of Commerce, held during the Annual Reeves County Fall Fair were announced.

Kaylee Aleyn Matta, the eight-month old daughter of Miguel and Nikki Matta placed first and will receive a $100 Savings Bond.

Mia Lauren Abila, the 14-month old daughter of Isaac and Bianca Abila placed second and netted a $50 Savings Bond.

Third place went to Malorie Molique Nunez, the six and a half month old daughter of Micah Huffman and Cassandra Nunez. She will receive a $25 gift certificate from Desiree's Boutique.

Jayden Jaziah Barreno, who is two and a half months old, took fourth place. She is the daughter of Jennica Lara and Adrian Barreno and will receive a gift basket from Beall's Department Store.

Fifth place went to Merissa Landa, the two-year-old daughter of Lorina R. Madrid. Merissa will receive a $10 gift certificate from Wal-Mart.

Winners will be contacted soon, or they can call Terri Spence at 447-4738.

"Thanks to all pretty baby entries at the 2002 Reeves County Fall Fair," said Spence. "The contest was a big success," she said.

The funds raised will go towards the EMT/Fireman Appreciation Dinner, sponsored by the women.

"We strive to support and serve our communities, businesses, civic and cultural interests," said president Laura Briggs.

Roberts stationed in Oklahoma

U.S. Army Private, Richard J. "R.C." Roberts graduated AIT with honors at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma, on Sept. 1.

Roberts has been with his family on leave, upon returning to Ft. Sill he will be a member of the 13-MIKE Crew.

Roberts grew up in Odessa, graduating from Odessa High School in 1995 and attended Odessa College.

He married Sami Jones in 1998. After she graduated from UTPB, the couple moved to Loving County where Roberts commuted to work at the Reeves County Detention Center in Pecos and she went to work for the Loving County and District Clerk.

She and their children will be joining R.C. at Ft. Sill in November of this year. The couple are members of the 4th and Bois D'Arc Church of Christ in Pecos.

Robert's family includes, his wife Sami and their children, Keighley Rae and Thomas Benjamin Jones; his mother Greta Benson; his in-laws, Tom and Karen Jones; sisters, Kathryn Ortega and her family and Erin Jones Walker and her husband, Matt; grandmother, Barbara Elliott; in-law grandparents, Sam and Carolyn Wood of Midland and Elgin "Punk" and Mary Belle Jones of Loving County; many aunts, uncles and cousins in Texas and Louisiana.

His many friends from Mentone, Loving County, Odessa and the surrounding area will be praying for his safety.

Renteria graduates in San Diego

Marine PVT, Michael D. Renteria, graduated NCRD at Camp Pendleton in San Diego, Calif., on Sept. 20.

Renteria is with his family on leave. When he returns to Camp Pendleton, he will be shipped out to serve in Iraq.

His family consists of his parents, Jose and Elena Renteria; sisters, Marissa and Marcella Renteria of Mentone, Loving County; brother, Joe Renteria and his family of Midland; grandparents, Seledonio and Hortencia Renteria; surrogate grandparents, Elgin "Punk" and Mary Belle Jones of Loving County; many uncles, aunts and cousins in Pecos, Kermit, Odessa, Midland and Artesia, N.M.

Also wishing him luck are his many friends in Mentone, Loving County and the surrounding area.
