Lauderdales celebrate 50th wedding anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. Edward D. Lauderdale will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Sept. 26. Their children chose to surprise them with a celebration at Possum Kingdom Lake, Aug. 3.

Hosts were the couple's three sons and wives, Kent Lauderdale of San Antonio; Rick and Ruth Lauderdale of Olney and Steve and Molly Lauderdale of Throckmorton. Also serving as hosts were the couple's six grandchildren and spouses, Cinnimon and Clay Stanford of Midland; Keith and Melainie Lauderdale of Artesia, N.M.; Shelia Walker of Broken Arrow, Okla.; Tabitha and Fred Whisenant of Odessa; Ricky Lauderdale, Jr. of Wichita Falls and B.J. Reyes of Throckmorton.

Also attending were the four great-grandchildren, Mason and Harleigh Walker of Broken Arrow, Okla.; Jordan Lauderdale of Odessa and Cierra Stanford of Midland.

Edward "Ed" Lauderdale and Alma "Lorene" Carroll were married Sept. 26, 1952, in Lamesa.

Ed enlisted in the Army in 1948 and served with the 8 Inch Howitzer Battalion in the Korea War.

Ed was an independent building contractor. In 1967, he taught Building Trades at Gonzales High School for two years and in 1969 moved to Pecos where he taught at Pecos High School for 11 years. He then continued as an independent contractor until he retired in 1993. The couple resided in Pecos until they moved to Olney in 1994, where they currently reside.

Lorene is a homemaker. After her sons were grown, she acquired her GED and attended nursing school. She is still an excellent homemaker and gourmet cook. Her family and home are her greatest treasures.

The guest included Lorene's mother, Thelma Carroll of Kingston, Okla.; two sisters and spouse, Wilma and Truman Sandlin and Pearl Notgrass of Lebanon, Okla.; a nephew and spouse, Wayne and Barbara Sandlin from Lamesa and a niece, Lavonda Morris from Lubbock. Also attending were Cindy Mauldin, Wichita Falls and Cristie Guliher, Midland.

Granado named to Dean's List

St. Edward's University released its Dean's List for the Spring 2002 semester.

Students on the Dean's List have completed 12 or more hours of credit and have met the academic requirements to be honored.

St. Edward's University is an independent Catholic liberal arts university of 4,100 students in Austin. It was founded by the Congregation of Holy Cross.

A student from Pecos was named to the Dean's List at the University. Kelly Liza Granado, accounting major was named to the 2002 Dean's List.
