Eagles, Rangers move up times for scrimmage
The starting time for the Pecos Eagles' preseason scrimmage
on Saturday against the El Paso Riverside Rangers has been
moved up from a 6 p.m. to a 4 p.m. start, coach Fred Carter said Monday.
The Eagles and Rangers will scrimmage their junior varsity
and freshman teams starting at 4 p.m. at Eagle Stadium, while the varsity
teams will scrimmage following completion of those series, probably about 5:30 p.m.
Although both Pecos and Riverside have been in the
playoffs each of the past four seasons, they never met during that time, and
this will be their first match-up of any kind in football in 11 years, since
the Riverside scored a 14-7 win in Pecos in 1991.
The Rangers have moved into the Eagles' former District 2-4A
this season, after winning the District 1-4A title last year. They defeated
Fabens in the opening round of the playoffs before falling to Andrews in the
area round, and are again picked to reach the Class 4A playoffs in 2002.
The Eagles will scrimmage Fabens next week in Van Horn.
