P-B-T closes summer golf with tourney

Golfer between grades 5 and 8 closed out the Pecos-Barstow-Toyah summer golf program, on Thursday with their own tournament at the Reeves County Golf Course.

The younger players went six holes and the older golfers nine for their rounds Thursday morning. In the fifth grade girls division, Allyson Salcido shot a 35 to win first place, while Jayme Galindo shot a 40 and AriAnna Alligood shot a 47. For the fifth grade boys, Mateo Tarango won a playoff over Jake Varela for first place, after both shot rounds of 29. They were followed by Edgardo Madrid with a 32, Lomas Gonzales with a 34, Parker Johnson with a 37, Westin Grant with a 42 and Michael Blanchard with a 44.

There was only a boys division in the sixth grade, where Joseph Ontiveros shot a 49, Heath Armstrong shot a 53, Joseph Rodriguez had a 54 and Frankie Morin shot a 62. For the seventh grade girls, Rica Pino shot a 32 and Kayla Natividad shot a 42, and the lone eighth grade girl playing on Thursday, Elanor Mason, shot a 58.

On the boys' side, the seventh and eighth grade players were combined. Joseph Tarin won with a 43 score and was followed by Zack Morton with a 53, Dane Daniel and Curtis James with 55s, Michael Lee with a 58, Travis Walker with a 59, R.J. Guerra with a 64 and Woody Tremble with a 68.

Tournament play for the first through fourth grade golfers was held on Wednesday at the Reeves County Golf Course. Coach Tina Hendrick said that while the summer program is over, the Reeves County Community Sports and Recreation Department would be offering a summer golf program during July.
