Seventh grade netters record perfect season
A trio of Pecos Eagle seventh grade tennis players went through the recent
spring season with undefeated records, and the seventh graders overall finished
their 2002 schedule with an unbeaten record.
Dina Ortiz swept all of her matches in girls' singles play during the
spring schedule, which ran from February through April, while the doubles
team of Francisco Ornelas and Jessie Hanks also were unbeaten in their matches.
Ortiz, who along with Ornelas was helping out on Thursday at the Pecos
High School Tennis Carnival, went through her dual meet matches undefeated,
and also took home first place in singles at three tournaments, in Pecos,
Fort Stockton and Monahans. She said the Monahans Tournament included teams
from Andrews, Kermit, Sweetwater and Midland Christian along with the Eagles
and host Loboes.
Ornelas and Hanks did not play in doubles at the Pecos Tournament, but
won first place in the tournaments at Fort Stockton and Monahans, along with
taking their dual meet matches during the spring schedule.
