Favor selected teacher of year
Recently, Kathy Favor was named Secondary Teacher of the Year for the Midland
Independent School District. This honor from the Midland Chamber of Commerce
included a $500 prize, $500 for her school, and a round-trip plane ticket
from Southwest Airlines.
Favor, an 11th grade English teacher at Robert E. Lee High
School, said her first reaction to the announcement was a surprise, but
her principal said the recognition was well-deserved.
"I wasn't surprised at all," said Lee High School Principal George Cooper.
"Kathy really epitomizes what it means to be a master teacher. She's really
an inspiration to all of the kids at Lee High School," he said.
From 1972-1992, Favor was a teacher at Pecos-Barstow-Toyah I.S.D. _
four years at Zavala Junior High and 16 years at Pecos High School, where
she taught English and Speech, and coached the Speech Team and directed
One-Act Plays.
Also honored were Jose Paz, the nominee from Milam Elementary, formerly
a teacher in Pecos, and Barbara Ramos Atencio, the nominee from San Jacinto
Junior High, a former student in Pecos.
Benefit plate sale scheduled
A benefit plate sale will be held beginning at 10:30 a.m., Friday, May
3, at Saragosa Hall.
Enchilada plates will be $3.50 and asado plates will be $4.
The benefit sale is for Richard Chavez.
To place an order call 448-7664 or 448-7524. Three or more plates ordered
will be delivered.
