WTSS Volunteer Council to conduct holiday fund-raiser
The West Texas Community Resource Council for Troubled Youth is a non-profit
corporation established and dedicated for the sole benefit of the youth at
West Texas State School in Pyote.
WTSS is a facility of the Texas Youth Commission currently serving approximately
250 delinquent male youth from across the state who will not be home for
the holidays.
The West Texas Community Resource Council for Troubled Youth (formerly
the West Texas State School Community Advisory Council) will be sending out
a direct appeal fund-raising letter to area businesses this holiday season.
The purpose of this article is to raise funds to provide goods and services
the state is not budgeted to provide.
One example of an on-going council project is the "Family Involvement
Assistance Program," which provides assistance with travel, lodging and meals
for needy families who wish to visit their child and be involved in the rehabilitation
process.
Many of our students have loving and caring families who want to be a
part of their rehabilitation, but very often, the distance from their homes
to our facility makes travel very expensive.
Some of these families simply cannot afford the trip.
The council accepts requests for assistance from our youth's caseworkers
based on the need of the family and we try to assist in every way we can.
It is the mission of the Texas Youth Commission volunteer services department
and the West Texas Community Resource Council to maximize community resources
and utilize volunteers to provide opportunities that enable youth to become
responsible and productive citizens.
If anyone has any questions about the West Texas volunteer council or
our Holiday fund-raiser, please contact Donna Garcia, West Texas State School
volunteer services coordinator at (915) 389-5555, ext. 221 for further information.
It takes all of us to change the course of a misguided child.
The West Texas Community Resource Council for Troubled Youth needs the
support of everyone in our community.
