Law enforcement academy offered at Odessa College

The Odessa College law enforcement/ criminal justice department is accepting applications for its Law Enforcement Academy, now until Oct. 26.

Classes start Monday, Oct. 29.

OC's Law Enforcement Academy is certified by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education.

After completion of the academy, students will be certified to take the state licensure exam for peace officers. They also will earn 22 college credit hours and a TASP-waived, level-one certificate of completion, according to Jim McKown, OC department chair and associate professor of law enforcement/criminal justice.

"Population growth and the increasing problem of crime currently provide many opportunities for careers in law enforcement," said McKown. "For those individuals interested in public service, OC's academy offers a challenging and rewarding course of study."

McKown added that class space is limited and urged students to start the registration process as soon as possible.

For more information, contact the Odessa College law enforcement/ criminal justice department at 335-6500.
