Diablos post Wednesday tourney wins
The West Texas Diablos moved up a few spots in the standings on Wednesday
by winning their first two games in the Championship Bracket of the USSSA's
12 and Under AAA World Series at Hutchison, Kan.
The team, made up of four Pecos players and seven from Odessa, won a pair
of games on Wednesday, downing the Wichita Bats by a 9-6 final score, then
defeated one of the teams ranked ahead of them, the Texas Warriors from Grand
Prairie, by a 10-1 final score.
Isaiah Rayos got the win in that game over the Warriors, who came in ranked
11th out of 84 teams at the tournament following the first 2½-days
of play. It was the first loss for the Warriors, who had outscored their
opponents 35-3 in their first three games, while the Diablos also raised
their record to 3-1 in the tournament with their victory.
Team rankings are based on wins and losses, along with runs scored and
allowed and average difference in runs per game. Going by that, the Diablos
moved up from 32nd to 20th before their win over the
Warriors, while the St. Louis Diamond Kings were ranked first among the 84
teams in the week-long tournament.
Of the Texas teams entered, the Andrews Mudcats were ranked highest going
into their fifth game of the tournament on Wednesday. Andrews was ranked
ninth overall, one spot ahead of the East Texas Arthletics and two ahead
of the Warriors.
