Nicole Payne to attend Howard College

Nicole Payne, a May 2001 Pecos High School graduate will attend Howard College in Big Spring this fall.

She is to be commended for all her outstanding high school achievements.

Payne graduated in the top 10 percent of her class under the New Distinguished Achievement Program Diploma, and concurrenly earned 18 semester credit hours from Odessa College.

She received several college scholarships which include the Association of Texas Professional Educators, Best Buy, Calendar Girls Sports Association, Classic Cable, Downtown Lions Frank Kelly Memorial, Evelyn Turpin Dowling Endowment, Golden Girl Advertising, Howard College Cheerleading, Knights of Columbus, Pecos High School Student Council, and Texas-New Mexico Power Company.

She also received several honor awards which include the Presidential Award for Educational Excellence, UIL Scholar Award, Dorothy Curfman Award, All-American Cheerleader, Outstanding Student Council Girl, Who's Who Among American High School Students, Outstanding Students of America, United States Leadership Merit Award, United States Achievement Award, Coca-Cola Classic Semifinalist, Academic Cheerleader Award, and the Presidential Service Award.

Payne left on July 8, to begin training for cheerleading camp which will be held at Southwest Texas State University later this month.

She is the daughter of Julie and Larry Payne.

Pecos students earn degrees

Diplomas were awarded to approximately 4,650 Texas A&M University graduates during spring commencement ceremonies.

The degrees were presented at four separate ceremonies.

Among those receiving degrees were Mikel Forrest Parent, of Pecos, who earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English and Danette Marie Rodriguez of Pecos, who earned a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies.
