Golden Girl Nominee
Kristina Dominguez
Kristina Dominguez is the 17-year-old grand-daughter of Fred L. and Vera
Dominguez.
She is sponsored by Pecos Pest Control, Terrazas Restaurant, Alfredo's
Restaurant, Pecos Downtown Lions Club, Sandell's Wrecker Service and La
Nortena Tortilla Factory.
Miss Dominguez is a member of the Pecos Youth Advisory Committee, enjoys
helping with Meals on Wheels and is a member of St. Catherine Catholic
Church.
She was a junior varsity cheerleader her freshman year; a varsity cheerleader
her sophomore year; a member of the Tennis Junior Varsity Team and Varsity
singles fist Team All-District in 1999 and 2000; doubles first team All-District
in 1999 and 2000; 1999 and 2000 tennis team Regional Qualifiers; United
States Achievement Academy Award winner for Cheerleading 1999 and Varsity
cheerleading redeeming in senior year.
Miss Dominguez enjoys computers, watching baseball, playing tennis and
baking.
She plans to attend Odessa College to try out for cheerleading there
and transfer to University of Texas in Austin to major in broadcast journalism.
"I lost my mother, the late Mary Ann Dominguez, when I was eight years
old. Everything that I have accomplished has been through determination
to make her proud of me," said Dominguez. "I know that she is within me
always. I owe my direction to my grandparents for helping me strive to
be what I am today," she said.
Rich, Stapleton announce June wedding plans
Roy and Deborah Rich, of Pecos, announce the engagement and approaching
marriage of their daughter, Cheryl Ree Rich to Scott Warren Stapleton.
The groom to be is the son of Sondra and Sonny Mobley, of Marble Falls
and Ronnie and Georgia Stapleton of Fort Worth.
He is a 1994 graduate of Robert E. Lee High School in Midland, received
a Bachelor's of Science degree in in 1997 from Howard Payne University
and a Master's Degree in pscycology from Angelo State University. He is
currently employed with Wright, Smith and Associates, a psychologist's
office.
The future bride is a 1994 graduate of Robert E. Lee High School in
Midland, received a Bachelor's Degree in Business in 1998 from Angelo State
University and a Masters of Business Administration in 2000. She is a pharmaceuticals
representative for Novartis.
She is the granddaughter of Harlan and Edna Stanton of Pecos.
The couple plan to wed at 7 p.m., Saturday, June 23, in San Angelo and
make their home in Midland.
Baseball academy open to youngsters
The Powerhouse Baseball Academy is now seeking 13-19 year old players to
participate in an intensive five-day instructional showcase camp at Ft.
Lauderdale Stadium in Florida, Aug. 4-8. The camp offers high school athletes
from Texas who would like to earn college scholarships, the opportunity
to showcase their skills before some of the country's top college coaches.
"This is a whole opportunity for a serious baseball player to improve
his skills dramatically and receive more exposure with college coaches
in one week than most players receive in their whole careers," said Al
Lopez, the event's director and former assistant coach at U. of Louisville.
The staff will include college coaches from baseball powerhouses like
U. of Texas, Ole Miss, U, University of South Caroline, University of Cincinnati,
University of Southern Mississippi, Clemson University, University of Alabama,
The Citadel, Brown University and Duke University.
