Barstow resident recognized at OC ceremony
Jesus Hernandez, of Barstow, was among 57 honorees at the Odessa
College Student Recognition ceremony held April 30. Hernandez was named
an outstanding member of the Student Support Services organization.
The honorees represented 28 academic and vocational departments and student
organizations. Faculty and staff selected the students to recognize outstanding
academic achievement and contributions to campus service groups.
Valenzuela nets Carr scholarship
A high school senior from Pecos has been awarded a Carr Academic Scholarship
to Angelo State University for the 2001-02 academic year.
The Carr Scholarship recipient is Veronica A. Valenzuela from Pecos High
School.
Carr Academic Scholarships are being awarded for 2001-2002, ranging in
value from $1,500 to $6,000, to qualified undergraduates. During the current
year more than 1,000 students from throughout Texas and the nation, as well
as numerous foreign countries, are attending Angelo State University on Carr
Academic Scholarships.
As a general rule, entering freshmen must rank in the top 15 percent of
their high school class and present either a combined math and verbal score
of 1140 on the SAT I or a composite score of 25 on the ACT.
Supported by a growing multi-million dollar trust established by the late
Robert G. and Nona K. Carr of San Angelo, the undergraduate scholarships
may be renewed annually by the university for students who maintain the required
academic record. During a four-year course of undergraduate study at ASU,
Carr Academic Scholarship can be worth from $6,000 to $24,000.
Orozco named to honor roll
David Lopez Orozco earned a place on the President's Honor Roll
for the Spring Semester at Texas State Technical College (TSTC) in
Waco.
Orozco is a student in the Biomedical Equipment Technology program.
The President's Honor Roll recognizes the scholastic achievement of students
with a perfect grade point average of 4.0.
Texas State Technical College in Waco is part of the only state-supported
technical college system in Texas. Other campuses are located in Harlingen,
Marshall, and Sweetwater.

Late registration planned
Late registration for Odessa College's Summer I session will be held from
8 a.m. until 5 p.m., Tuesday through Wednesday, May 29-30, at the Registrar's
Office on the second floor of the Student Union Building.
