Cate, Ackerman exchange wedding vows in Las Vegas

PECOS, April 11, 2001 - Hilary Erin Cate and David Edward Ackerman, both of Austin, were married March 20, at "The Little Chapel of Flowers" in Las Vegas.

Parents of the bride are Bruce Edmund Cate of Austin and Pahoa, Hawaii and Veronica Ivey Atkinson of Aberdeen, Washington.

Parents of the groom are Davidlouis Ackerman of Galveston and Merikay Jones of Temple.

Grandparents of the bride are Mr. and Mrs. M.A. Cate of Verhalen.

A reception and dinner was held in Austin at the Starlight Room for family and friends on March 24.

Mrs. Ackerman attended Austin Community College in Austin and is a graduate with a Montessori degree from Houston Montessori Center and is an A.M.S. certified teacher at the Montessori Childrens School in Austin where she has taught for five years and this year is taking on new administrative duties.

The groom is a graduate of the University of Texas, Austin with a degree in fine arts. He has had several exhibits of his art in Austin.

They are at home in Austin.

Crawford receives award at exposition

PECOS, April 11, 2001 - The San Antonio Livestock Exposition, Inc. in association with the San Antonio Kiwanis Club honored 40 outstanding young people during the 46th annual Rural Youth Banquet on Friday, Feb. 2.

The 4-H, FFA and FCCLA members were chosen by their organizations for their continuing contributions to agriculture and agricultural related fields, and for their involvement in leadership and community service activities.

Gito Crawford IV, son of L.G. and Diana Crawford, of Pecos, was one of the outstanding youth who also received a $1,000 Youth Leadership Award. The honoree is pictured with Mrs. Jackie Van Der Walle, Chairman of the San Antonio Livestock Exposition Ambassador Committee.

The San Antonio Livestock Exposition, is a volunteer, nonprofit organization whose mission is to promote agricultural awareness and its advancement through education.

OC plans closings for holiday

PECOS, April 11, 2001 - Odessa College will close Friday and Saturday, April 13-14, in observance of Good Friday and the Easter Holiday.

The OC Sports Center also will be closed.
