Portillo celebrates second birthday

PECOS, April 2, 2001 - Christoper Jonah "C.J." Portillo celebrated his second birthday with family and friends at ChuckE Cheese's in Midland, on Saturday, Feb. 10.

One of C.J.'s favorite gifts was a remote control truck given to him by his grandparents, Gome and Delia Olibas.

C.J. is the son of Chris and Lanette Portillo and big brother to Jalen.

Regional Winners

PECOS, April 2, 2001 - Bryan Chowning and Joseph Jaquez placed first in the Behavioral/Social Science category at the Permian Basin Regional Science Fair which was held on March 24, at the University of Texas Permian Basin in Odessa. They will be continuing on to state level competition in Austin on April 7.

OC to present special concert

PECOS, April 2, 2001 - The Odessa College Vocal Ensemble presents "Turn Your Radio On," at 8 p.m., Friday, April 6, in OC's Deaderick Auditorium. The concert features a medley of songs from the 1920s to the 1980s made popular on radio.

Tunes from the 20s include, "Charleston" and "Baby Face." "As Time Goes By" and "Chattanooga Choo-Choo" will represent the 30s and 40s. Works by the Beach Boys, Temptations, Carpenters and Credence Clearwater Revival will showcase the more modern radio era.

The ensemble will be accompanied by Dr. Charlotte Whitaker on piano, Richie Puga on drums, Chris Davis on guitar and David Parker on bass. Shauna Allen is the show's choreographer, Dana Ritter is stage director and Randy Talley is the Vocal Ensemble director.

Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for seniors and groups of 10 or more. All students and Odessa College employees admitted free.
