Evans, Horne announce June wedding in Midland
PECOS, March 27, 2001 - Harold and Vicki Horne, of Midland, announce the
engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Jacquelyn Horne
to Jared Evans.
Evans is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Evans of Dallas. He is a May
2001 graduate of Texas A&M University.
The bride-elect is a 1997 graduate of Lee High School and a May 2001
graduate of Texas A&M University. She is the granddaughter of Mrs.
Jack Chenault of Pecos.
The couple plan to wed at 2 p.m., June 30, at First Baptist Church in
Midland.
OC offers assistance with tuition for truck driving
PECOS, March 27, 2001 - Students interested in Odessa College's professional
truck driving classes may be eligible for tuition assistance from the Odessa
Workforce Center.
In announcing the cooperative effort between Odessa College and the
Odessa Workforce Center, Martha Kunkel, OC director of community service
programs, said that the tuition assistance program combined with the OC
classes provides an excellent training opportunity for individuals deciding
to change careers due to dead-end jobs or layoffs.
The OC classes start every three weeks and offer comprehensive classroom
and behind-the-wheel training for a profession that, according to industry
estimates, will require 60,000 new drivers annually.
Kunkel said that since the tuition is $3,500, interested individuals
are urged to apply as soon as possible for the tuition assistance available
for classes beginning on or before June 11.
She added that starting salaries can be as high as $30,000 or more with
full benefits. Kunkel also noted that OC provides career counseling and
job referrals for its students through the college's career services department.
OC's truck driving school and the tuition assistance program is restricted
to eligible students 21 years of age or older.

more details.
Gardners tell of new son
PECOS, March 27, 2001 - On March 21, 2001, Shelby welcomed a new brother
into the world.
Melissa and Alton Gardner had a son, Bryce Cole Gardner.
He weighed seven pounds,10 oz. and was 191/4 inches long.
Paternal grandparents are James and Barbara Smith of Houston and former
residents of Pecos.
Paternal grandparents are Lewis and Janice Gardner of Angleton.
High school junior girls sought for pageant
PECOS, March 27, 2001 - Pecos High School junior girls are invited to participate
in the annual Golden Girl Pageant scheduled for June 30, at the Pecos High
School Auditorium.
Deadline to sign-up to participate in the annual pageant is Friday,
March 30.
