Ramirez ends AIT course

PECOS, March 6, 2001 - Army Pvt. Erlinda S. Ramirez has graduated from the motor transport operator advanced individual training (AIT) course at Fort Leonard Wood, Waynesville, Mo.

During the course, the soldier received training in the operation and maintenance of light and heavy military vehicles during on- and off-road and blackout conditions, and instruction in transportation of personnel, equipment, and supplies. Other instruction included accident prevention and reporting, operator maintenance, and motor marches.

Ramirez is the daughter of Melinda S. and Silvestre R. Ramirez of Pecos.

Support group schedules meets

PECOS, March 6, 2001 - The Pecos Support Group of the Alzheimer's Association, held its second meeting at the Pecos Senior Center recently.

The group meets every other Thursday of each month at the Senior Center and everyone is invited to attend.

The topic was, "What is the difference between Alzheimer's and Dementia?"

Discussion centered on the similarities between dementia as a process and dementia as a symptom of Alzheimer's.

The next meeting to be held will be at 7 p.m., Thursday, March 22 at the center.

If there is anyone interested they are urged to come and support the Pecos Support Group. If there is a party that needs an earlier time, they need to contact Beverly Thomas at 447-2810 or Donna Woodard at the Pecos Senior Center, 445-3272.

Scholastic Book Fair planned

PECOS, March 6, 2001 - Austin Elementary School, first and second grades, will be hosting a Scholastic Book Fair, beginning Monday, March 5 through Friday, March 9.

Hours for the book fair will be from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m, in Room 16.

Everyone is invited to come in and browse.

The book fair will offer a wide variety of scholastic books, fun books and assorted items.
