Giraldo completes basic training

PECOS, February 12 - Edixon Alexander Giraldo completed basic military training for the United States Air Force, on Jan. 26, as an honor graduate.
Giraldo is the son of Rubiela Gallo of Medillin, Colombia.
He and his wife, Denise Giraldo of Pecos and a 1996 graduate of Pecos High School, have one daughter, three-year-old, Ghiselle Giraldo.
Giraldo is currently station at Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls and is a radiology technician.
He is a 1994 graduate of Pecos High School.

Tech students make honors

PECOS, February 12 - More than 4,000 Texas Tech University students qualified for academic honors lists at the end of the fall semester.
Students on the President's List earned a 4.0 (A) grade point average while enrolled in 12 or more semester hours of class work. Students who earned 12 or more hours with a grade point average of 3.5 to 3.9 qualified for the Dean's List.
Area students making the honor rolls included the following: Stephanie Anne Armstrong, was named to the President's List. She is a senior majoring in agricultural communications.
Albert John Lee, a senior, biology major, was named to the Dean's List and Alan Layne Russell, a senior computer science major was named to the Dean's List.

Capping ceremony held in Monahans

PECOS, February 12 - The Odessa College School of Vocational Nursing, Monahans Extension held its capping ceremony in Monahans, Friday, Feb. 9, at the Ward County Convention Center. A reception followed in the parlor.
Monahans residents of the class of 2001 are Sharlene Black, Marisela A. Gardea and Tamara C. Gardner.
Students from Odessa are Angelee Daniels, Dana L. Gourd, Sharnequea Linster, Cindy Roach, Elizabeth M. Sutton and Corrie Thompson.
Kermit students are Rebecca S. Hernandez and Christina S. Jones.
Jana Dominguez and Deborah Wood of Crane also participated in the program.
In the capping ceremony, students are recognized for completing the first half of a rigorous, yearlong training program and receive the caduceus pin _ the medical profession insignia characterized by a winged staff with two entwined snakes. Female students also receive the traditional nurses' cap, for which the ceremony originally got its name.
