Bad weather halts Eagles' Midland trip
PECOS, Jan. 3, 2001 -- Bad road conditions in the Midland-Odessa area forced
postponement of Tuesday’s scheduled boys basketball games between the
Pecos Eagles and Midland Greenwood Rangers.
“I called up at 1:30 and it will still snowing a little bit up there,
so we decided not to chance it,” said Eagles’ coach Tino Acosta
of the game, which was to be the Eagles’ second against Greenwood this
season and the first of 2001 for Pecos.
Acosta said the games would be made up on Saturday, with the freshmen, junior
varsity and varsity games set for 11:30 a.m., 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. at Greenwood.
Before then, the Eagles will travel to Fort Stockton for their second Friday
game in a row on the Panthers’ home court. Game time for those match-ups
will be at 4:30, 6 and 7:30 p.m.
Pecos’ girls, meanwhile, didn’t have to be bothered by Tuesday’s
bad weather because they had the night off after going 1-2 last weekend at
the Midland Christian Tournament. District 2-4A play will begin for Pecos
at home this Friday against the Clint Lions.
Coach Veronica Valenzuela said due to failing grades on the sub-varsity teams,
the Eagles will probably have to combine their JV and freshman teams for
the next few weeks. Game times against the Lions will be at 6 and 7:30 p.m.
