Spring commencement planned

Odessa College will host it's Spring Commencement at 7 p.m., Friday, May 12, in the OC Sports Center, honoring over 200 students in the college's first graduating class of the 21st century.

Candidates for graduation are from 18 cities in Texas including 145 from Odessa; 14 from Midland; six from Monahans; four from Andrews, Kermit and Pecos; and three from Gardendale and McCamey. Other Texas cities include Anson, Austin, Crane, El Paso, Lamesa, Lindale, Lubbock, Sonora, Stephenville and Wink. States include Arizona, Georgia, Missouri, New Mexico and Pennsylvania.

Also included are 26 members of Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society for two-year colleges.

Odessa College board of trustees president James H. Gilliland will deliver the commencement address.

Gonzales ends basic training

Army Pvt. Arron M. Gonzales has arrived at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla., to complete basic military training.

During the eight weeks of training, the soldier will study the Army mission and receive instruction in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, Army history and traditions, and special training in human relations.

Gonzales is the son of Delma Gonzales of Pecos, and brother of Gabrieal Gonzales of San Antonio, Tx.

His wife, Jennifer, is the daughter of Teresa Rivera of Cartwheel Lane, San Antonio.
