Odessa College plans closing

Odessa College will be closed for spring break Monday, March 13, through Saturday, March 18.

The OC Sports Center will observe special hours during spring break. The Sports Center will be open 7-10 a.m. and 4-8 p.m., Monday through Thursday, March 13-16, and 7-10 a.m. and 4-7 p.m., Friday, March 17. The pool will be closed March 11-25 for Aquatics Academy activities and routine maintenance.

Sports Center regular hours will resume Monday, March 20, and the pool will reopen Monday, March 27.

Workmans tell of new daughter

Michael and Tara Workman announce the birth of their daughter, Brynn Mykelle Workman.

Brynn was born March 5, 2000, at 12:44 in Alpine and weighed seven pounds, five ounces and was 21 ½ inches long.

Maternal grandparents are Mike and Connie Mallett of Lampassas, Tx.

Paternal grandparents are Jerry and Emma Workman of Pecos.

Torres honored at ceremony

Private Joseph Torres, is with the Deparment of the Army, 2nd Battalion, 19th Infantry Regiment, Infantry Training Brigade, Bravo Company.

Private Torres was awarded a Battalion Certificate of Achievement for the score of 352 points on the Army Physical Fitness Test. Private Torres accomplished the highest score for the entire company. The graduation class had 154 people.

Private Torres was also presented with the Infantry Blue Braid by his father, Joseph Torres, Sr., during the Infantry "turning blue" ceremony. Also in attendance was his mother, Esmeralda Portillo Torres.

Joseph G. Torres, Jr. is the grandson of Juan and Sylvia Portillo of Pecos.

Private Torres will be stationed at Fort Benning, Ga., and continue on to the Airborne and Ranger Courses.
