Children's Book Contest set

The Austin Writer's League sponsors the Teddy Book Award for an outstanding children's book published between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2000. Deadline for entries, which may include any children's book _ fiction or non-fiction, picture books to young adults, Feb. 15.

A $1,000 cash award and trophy will be presented to the winner at a reception in Austin in the spring. Special citations may be given to other children's books that show outstanding merit. The award is underwritten by Focused Learning, Ltd.

Kimberly Willis Holt of Amarillo, the 1999 National Book Award winner for children's books, won the League's Teddy Award in 1999 for her book, Louisiana Sky.

Books must be written by an Austin Writer's League member, but authors may join at the time of entry. All entries must be accompanied by a $10 entry fee, two copies of the book and an entry form, which may be obtained by phone, 512-499-8914, or fax, 512-499-0441.

Workman named to President's List

Lindley Workman has been named to the President's List for the 1999 Fall semester at the University of North Texas in Denton.

Only students who have earned a grade point average of 4.0 on a course load of 12 or more hours during the semester were accorded this distinction.

Workman's name along with those other 4.0 honorees, will be submitted to the National Dean's List, a publication which recognizes outstanding academic achievements of students throughout the United States.

Workman, is a senior at the university and is the daughter of Jerry and Emma Workman of Pecos.

Area students make Dean's List

Sul Ross State University named 215 students to its fall semester Dean's List, the academic honor roll.

Undergraduate students enrolled for 12 or more semester hours who maintain a grade point average of 3.3 or greater are eligible for the Dean's List. Graduate hours are not included in Dean's List computations.

Sul Ross Dean's List students from the area include from Balmorhea: Daniel Scott Clark, 3.5; Karen Denise Galindo, 3.75 and Nathian Rodriguez, 3.4.

From Pecos: Linda B. Borreg, 4.0 and Nikki Matta, 3.8.
